I posted what technique the hack used there:
I managed to dump the root partition, which helped me search on how packages were installed and then used a tar "feature" (it follows links) to write file where it needed to. The tar file was specially crafted using the tarfile python module.
However, after a sleepless night yesterday, I greatly simplified the process and rewrote the kindle packaging script.
Now packages generated for the Kindle 2 International won't even require to have your kindle "broken" first.
The generated package will contain all the bits required.
